Acute Kidney Injury
Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a common complication in the ICU and is associated with poor prognosis. In critically ill patients, AKI is independently associated with increased costs of medical care, as well as increased risk of morbidity and mortality.* Diagnosis of AKI as it is occurring is difficult as there are no true markers of new injury. AKI is commonly diagnosed when a later decline in renal function is observed, often several days delayed. Better tools are needed for earlier detection and assessment of AKI.
