Chlamydia
Chlamydia, a curable sexually transmitted disease (STD), often goes undiagnosed and can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women and epididymitis in men—both very serious illnesses—as well as infections in newborns. About 70 percent of infections have no symptoms, but when symptoms do appear it is usually within 1 to 3 weeks and may be very mild.
Chlamydia is easily confused with gonorrhea because the symptoms are similar and the diseases can occur at the same time. The most reliable way to find out whether an infection is chlamydia is through laboratory tests.
