
Senior Management
Alere® Medical has assembled a management team with experience in healthcare delivery, technology development, clinical operations, healthcare informatics, business development, sales, and marketing. These include physicians, nurses, and executives who are experts in developing and implementing health management services . The Alere senior management team is supported by accomplished technical and marketing professionals, as well as by teams of registered nurses who are responsible for the day-to-day interaction with patients. Alere also works with physician experts on disease management and managed care.
Ronald D. Geraty, MD, Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Geraty has served as a founder, officer, consultant and director for multiple healthcare services and technology companies since 1976. Prior to coming to Alere, he was a director and CEO of Global Telemedix, Inc., a cardiology Internet company. From 1998 to 2000, he was director and CEO of American Imaging Management, a diagnostic imaging payer providing capitated radiology services to United Healthcare, CIGNA and Aetna. From 1991 to 1998, he served as an officer and director of Merit Behavioral Care Corporation and participated in its growth from $60m to over $600m of revenues when it was sold to Magellan Health Services. Dr. Geraty has been on the clinical faculty of Harvard Medical School and was a Research Fellow at the Division of Healthcare Policy and Research at Harvard, where he assisted in developing methodologies utilized in measuring performance in the healthcare industry and conducted research on physician practice. Dr. Geraty holds an MD degree from Loma Linda University and completed his Adult, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry internship and residency at LAC/USC Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA.
Janet Tewhill, MHA, President, Chief Operating Officer
Ms. Tewhill is an accomplished executive with over 20 years of experience in providing operational, financial and business development leadership to complex healthcare organizations. She has a successful track record in building results-driven teams and innovative programs and organizations. Ms. Tewhill is a registered nurse and has a masters degree in health care administration from The University of Minnesota. Prior to joining Alere Ms. Tewhill served in senior management positions in hospitals, physician management organizations, and managed health care organizations.
Gordon K. Norman, MD, MBA, Executive Vice President, Chief Science Officer
Dr. Norman joined Alere in 2005 when Alere purchased PacifiCare's disease management business and became their exclusive disease management vendor. In 2004 Dr. Norman was named among the Top 25 Most Influential People in Disease Management by Managed Healthcare Executive magazine, and also joined DMAA's Board of Directors. Prior to joining Alere Dr. Norman served as executive director of PacifiCare's dedicated disease management unit. He also served as VP, Health Care Quality for PacifiCare, as well as Regional Medical Director and senior Plan Medical Director for PacifiCare of California. Before joining PacifiCare he completed the MBA program at Stanford, where he previously earned degrees in Psychology and Medicine. Following family medicine training in Maine and New York, Dr. Norman entered practice in upstate New York and later, New Hampshire, where he helped to launch a physician-led HMO and served as a hospital Medical Director and lead physician in a "group without walls" primary care practice.
Timothy J. Moore, MD, MS, Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Moore has over 15 years medical management experience in public health, academic, and managed care organizations. His expertise includes healthcare planning & innovations, care management analysis & development and provider relations. Prior to joining Alere, Dr. Moore served as Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Health Net, Inc. He joined Health Net in 1998 as chief medical officer of the Northeast health plan and was promoted to chief medical officer of Health Net, Inc. in January 2001. Prior to Health Net, Dr. Moore functioned in similar roles at Humana in Louisville, KY, at Towers Perrin in Minneapolis, MN, and FHP in Salt Lake City, UT. Dr. Moore is a boarded family practitioner with a MD from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and a Masters in Administrative Medicine from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Jon E. Tropsa, CPA, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Tropsa has more than 25 years of experience in financial management and creating value for investors, including improving financial performance, implementing enterprise systems, and maximizing capital structure. Mr. Tropsa was formerly Chief Financial Officer and co-founder of Aptuit, Inc., a $300 million company focused on streamlining the drug development process for biotechnology and pharmaceutical innovators. He previously served as Vice President, Finance and Accounting of Dictaphone Corporation, and Chief Financial Officer of ChiRex Inc. a pharmaceutical outsourcing company.
Michael Majerik, Executive Vice President, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer
Mr. Majerik has more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing, and business development. Prior to joining Alere he was Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for Magellan Health Services, where he designed and implemented sales and marketing strategies for the country’s leading behavioral health management company. Previously Mr. Majerik was executive vice president of sales for CorSolutions Medical, Inc., a leading disease management company that was acquired in 2006. His previous experience includes sales and marketing positions with CM Healthcare Resources; the USCI Division of C.R. Bard; and SmithKline Pharmaceuticals.
Douglas Albro, Executive Vice President, Chief Information Officer
Mr. Albro has more than 20 years of experience in IT networks and infrastructure. His expertise includes corporate information and business intelligence applications as well as IS tools for consumers, employers/HR Directors, providers and health plans. He joined Alere from BCBS Excellus where he was Vice President, Information Management. There he developed a high-performance division of over 50 full-time staff including application developers, data architects, DBAs, business analysts, data governance, quality testers, solution architects, business intelligence specialists, and support services. He was previously at Humana, where he was Director of IT responsible for networks and IT infrastructure.
Kathy Cartelli, MS, RD, Vice President, Southern California Operations
Ms. Cartelli has more than 20 years of experience in health care, primarily in program development and implementation. Prior to joining Alere, she was responsible for development of health and disease management programs for PacifiCare Health Systems. Ms. Cartelli has held positions in public health, developing nutrition programs and providing nutrition counseling services, and marketing of health care products and services. Ms. Cartelli holds a Master of Science degree in public health nutrition from Case Western Reserve University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from the University of California at Davis. Early in her career, she received the "Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year" award from the American Dietetic Association.
Jeff Roggensack, Vice President, Information Services & Technology
Mr. Roggensack is a senior IT executive with 20 years of experience in directing technology-related products, services, and resources to address business needs. He was most recently Senior Vice President/Chief Information Officer for Rehabcare Group, Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri. He previously served as Vice President of Information Services for Health Partners Southeast, Inc., as well as Vice President of Information Services / CIO for United Healthcare of Illinois. Mr. Roggensack has also held IT management positions with Baxter International Inc. and Andersen Consulting.
Pei Tang, Vice President, Healthcare Informatics & Outcomes
Ms. Tang has more than 10 years of experience in health care information analysis, quality measurement and performance reporting. Previously, she was Vice President of Health Informatics and Outcomes Management for CorSolutions, Inc. She also worked with more than 50 Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans nationwide on quality measurement, performance reporting and system-wide benchmarking initiatives. Ms. Tang also has extensive knowledge of outcomes management, serving on the CMS Health Outcomes Study Committee from 1998-2000, as well as on the NCQA Committee on Performance Measurement (CPM) from 1998-1999. She is currently an active member of the Outcomes Steering Committee and the Quality and Research Committee of DMAA.
Stacy Knapp, MBA, Assistant Vice President Branded Products, Optum
Stacy Knapp is an accomplished client services professional, with over 13 years of experience providing account management leadership to a variety of healthcare organizations. As head of Alere’s Optum Product Management, she leads a team dedicated to specialized product delivery for one of Alere’s key clients. Prior to this assignment, Ms. Knapp served for six years as Alere’s Senior Regional Director, Client Services where she managed many large health plan clients, including PacifiCare and Blue Shield, with 100% client retention and satisfaction. Ms. Knapp has a BA in Biology from Cornell University and an MBA from Suffolk University in Boston, MA. Prior to joining Alere, Ms. Knapp served in various management positions in home health care and nurse staffing organizations.
Gayle Litov, Assistant Vice President, Human Resources
Gayle Litov has over 10 years experience in human resource management. Prior to joining Alere she worked in human resource management with an optical lens manufacturer. She has generalist experience in employment, compensation and benefits administration, employee relations, and training. She has an M.A. in Psychology from California State University, Hayward.
Karen Hechinger, Assistant Vice President, Call Center Operations
Ms. Hechinger is a call center professional with over 15 years experience in call center operations. Previously, she was Director of National Call Center Provider Services for Amerigroup Corporation, and VP for the Dreyfus Corporation Call Center. Her expertise includes performance management, workforce management, call quality assurance, and call center operations efficiencies. She has experience with both inbound and outbound call centers in the areas of sales, service and transaction processing. Ms Hechinger has an MBA in Management from Hofstra University.
Angie Markwell, RN, Assistant Vice President, Clinical Services
Angie Markwell has more than 22 years of management experience, including eight years in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Alere, she managed a nurse triage and disease management call center for a large health system. She previously served as Disease Management Coordinator for Hometown Health Plan – Renown Health, where she assisted in the design and implementation of an asthma clinic. Ms. Markwell has been a practicing registered nurse for 15 years, receiving her Associate of Science Degree in Nursing in 1991 from Iowa . She also received a Master of Science in Recreational Sports Management from Indiana University in 1983, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1982 from University of Vermont .
