Der BinaxNOW™ Malaria Test ist ein immunchromatographischer In-vitro-Test für den qualitativen Nachweis der Antigene von Plasmodium in humanem, mit EDTA versetztem, venösem und kapillarem Vollblut bei Personen mit Zeichen und Symptomen einer Malariainfektion. Der Test weist Antigene des Histidin-reichen Proteins II (HRPII) nach, die spezifisch für Plasmodium falciparum (P.f.) sind, und ein Antigen, das alle vier Malariaspezies aufweisen, die für die Infektion beim Menschen verantwortlich sind – P. falciparum, P. vivax (P.v.), P. ovale (P.o.) und P. malariae (P.m.).
Der Test dient zur Unterstützung der Schnelldiagnose von Malariainfektionen beim Menschen und zur Unterscheidung von Infektionen mit Plasmodium falciparum von weniger virulenten Malariainfektionen. Negative Ergebnisse müssen durch mikroskopische Untersuchungen mit dünnem bzw. dickem Ausstrich bestätigt werden.
